From Poland to Tsinghua University

I entered several of the best universities in the world, I study in Shanghai for free. I’ve already won nearly $100,000 in scholarships

Małgorzata Wyszkowska is a PhD student at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China – one of the world’s top universities – where she majors in Media and Social Communication. In 2019, as one of only 136 European students, she was awarded a prestigious “EU Window” Chinese Government Scholarship by the Mission of China to the EU, and entered a doctoral degree program. The scholarship fully covers tuition fees and living expenses in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

As a multiple scholarship recipient, her mission is to popularize the idea of studying at the best universities in the world and to make young people aware that scholarships for the most talented are within reach. With this purpose in mind, she established the “International Expert” initiative.

I would like my initiative to function as a bridge between Europe and China. I want to help the younger generation find their way to study in China, or anywhere they desire. Everything is possible – says Małgorzata.

I use my example to show that it is possible, regardless of financial resources. You have to be resourceful, inventive, and, above all, seek for opportunities. Especially when it comes to first academic exchanges, it is worth taking advantage of the offer of your university. It’s an investment that will pay off. Each experience we gain will help us gain more and more in the future – this is part of the recipe for success. It is an investment that grows in value over time – reveals Małgorzata.

She is already experienced in entering the most renowned universities in the world, having already studied at: Tsinghua University (China), Peking University (China), Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), Sichuan University (China), Seoul National University (South Korea) and Ewha Womans University (South Korea).

The table shows the universities where Małgorzata Wyszkowska studied and their positions in the most popular world university rankings:

My adventure began with an Erasmus exchange to Belgium at KU Leuven – it was the best available university on the list. I stayed there after the academic exchange, for an internship under the Erasmus program, and then for a master’s degree. This university opened up an ocean of opportunities for me to study at other top universities. Now I want to popularize the idea of studying abroad at the best universities in the world among the younger generation. It is possible, there are scholarships that allow you to study completely for free, so the problem of the financial barrier disappears. Sometimes you only need to pay for a plane ticket and a visa. – says Malgorzata. – I have already won about $100,000 in scholarships because I have figured out the scholarship awarding system – she adds.

By running an Instagram account (@InternationalExpert), she shows what the life of a scholarship student in China is like. Many people intending to study in China follow her profile to learn more about what life at university is like. Małgorzata often receives questions about the Chinese Government Scholarship application in private messages:

The most common questions I receive are “how did you do it?”, “how to start?” and “is it difficult to get in?” The same practical questions will also arise many times regarding the university or scholarship application itself, because there is a lot of information on the Internet, but it is often contradictory or unclear. Therefore, as a two-time winner of the Chinese Government Scholarship, I am a source of information for these people, which I am happy to share. Many people around me who benefited from my help received scholarships from the Chinese Government to universities in Beijing and Shanghai. – she sums up.
